Diversity and Inclusion
Creating a classroom where every student feels valued, respected, and represented is an important part of my teaching philosophy. I strive to provide opportunities for students to learn about different cultures, perspectives, experiences, and communities through meaningful discussions, classroom activities, and shared experiences. By fostering curiosity, empathy, and understanding, I help students develop an appreciation for both their own identities and the diverse world around them.
Learning through the Paralympics
Learning about the Paralympics helped students gain a deeper understanding of the accomplishments, determination, and resilience of athletes with disabilities. Through videos, discussions, and classroom activities, students explored the experiences of Paralympic athletes and reflected on the importance of recognizing individuals for their abilities and achievements. As part of our Olympic studies, our class selected Italy as our country and learned about its culture and participation in the games. These experiences encouraged students to develop respect for others while celebrating the strengths and achievements of people from diverse backgrounds and experiences.

Learning about different cultures and traditions helps students develop an appreciation for the diverse experiences that make up our classroom and community. Throughout the year, students explored a variety of holidays and cultural celebrations through videos, discussions, and classroom activities. Each morning, students participated in "Wish You Wells" and daily celebrations, creating opportunities to share important traditions, experiences, and aspects of their culture with their classmates. These moments encouraged students to learn from one another and fostered a classroom environment where everyone felt valued and respected.
Celebrating our Community
Recognizing the Month of the Military Child provides students with an opportunity to learn about the experiences of military children and the sacrifices their families make in service to our country. Through classroom discussions, students reflected on the importance of supporting and appreciating members of their community. As a school, we wore purple to show our support, attended community events, and enjoyed a performance by the Navy Band. These experiences helped students develop a greater understanding of the unique challenges and contributions of military-connected families.
